Black sea salt, also known as kala namak, is a type of rock salt that is commonly used in South Asian cuisine. It is harvested from the volcanic regions of Pakistan and India, and has a distinctive pinkish-grey colour and a sulfurous aroma. Despite its name, black sea salt is not actually black in colour, but gains its name from the colour of the rocks from which it is extracted. It is often used as a flavuor enhancer in dishes such as chaat, chutneys, and raitas, and is also used in Ayurvedic medicine for its purported health benefits.

Tip: For plump and juicy chicken breast fillets – lightly coat breasts with olive oil and then generously coat with rub both sides, bake in oven at 180c for 30 mins and let rest for a further 5 mins. Delicious!

How to use:
To make amazing Satay Sauce, simply add 5 tbsp (100g) of Sambal Kachang Satay Sauce Paste to 200ml of Coconut Cream and 1tbsp (20ml) of Soy Sauce. Bring to the boil, stir well to combine, then it’s ready to serve.
For a creamier texture, blend slightly after boiling – just enough to still leave chunky peanuts in the sauce.
For a milder heat, add an extra 50ml of Coconut Cream to the above recipe.
Alternatively, add 1 tbsp of Sambal Kachang Satay Sauce Paste (or to taste) to any stir fry.

What’s the difference between CASSIA and VERUM?
There are two types of cinnamon: Cassia cinnamon and Ceylon cinnamon, also known as true cinnamon. The main difference between the two is their flavour profile and where they come from.
Cassia cinnamon is the more commonly used variety and is native to China, also grown in Vietnam. It has a stronger, sweeter flavour and the the colour may be slightly darker. It is also cheaper and more readily available than Ceylon cinnamon. However, it contains higher levels of coumarin, which can be toxic in large amounts. So, take it easy on the cinnamon donuts 🙂
Ceylon cinnamon, on the other hand, is native to Sri Lanka and has a more delicate and subtle flavour and a more complex aroma. It is also more expensive and harder to find than cassia cinnamon.
