Which Came First? The Chicken or the Buffalo in the Great Wing Debate!

So, how did it all begin?

Contrary to what many people believe, buffalo wings don’t actually come from buffaloes. Instead, they are named after the city in which they were created: Buffalo, New York. The story goes that in the 1960s, a bar called Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY, was looking for a way to use up extra chicken wings that were typically thrown away. The bar’s owner, Teressa Bellissimo, decided to fry the wings and toss them in a mixture of hot sauce and butter. This spicy and tangy dish quickly became popular among bar patrons and eventually spread in popularity across the country. So, while buffalo wings may not come from buffaloes, they are certainly a delicious and iconic dish that originated in Buffalo, NY.

When it comes to making a good buffalo wing sauce, there are a few key things to keep in mind. First and foremost, it’s important to strike a balance between heat and flavour. You want your sauce to have a Chick-a-Boom spicy kick, but you also want it to taste delicious and not overpower the flavour of the chicken wings.

Another important factor to consider is texture. A good buffalo wing sauce should be thick enough to coat the wings evenly, without being too gloopy or runny.

Cobra Chilli’s wing sauce is most commonly used as a dipping or coating sauce for chicken wings, but it can also be used as a marinade or sauce for other meats, vegetables, and even pizza.  Wing sauce has always had an association with sports and social events and is typically served with beer and sports games making it the perfect complement to other party foods, such as nachos and potato skins.

Overall, buffalo sauce’s versatility, unique flavour, and association with social gatherings and sports have made it a beloved condiment that continues to grow in popularity.
